Creator community

One of the oldest creator sites on the web, hosting games, animation, music and art.

Verdict

Newgrounds is as much a cultural archive as a game site, with years of community work still playable. It rewards curious browsing, but its mixed content means parents should review the rating filters first.

Best for: Web-culture history and creator work

What works

Decades of community-made games and animation
Archived Flash work preserved through an emulator
Active forums and voting on submissions

What to weigh up

Some pages look old-fashioned
Content ratings need checking before younger players browse
